The 24th National Conference focuses on showcasing various research and recent advancements in the rubber industry.

Thursday 5th April to Sunday 7th April 2019

The centre for rubber science and technology (CRST) would be fully represented at this year’s National Rubber Conference hosted by the iom3.

A total of 7 CRST member’s would be presenting an array of rubber related topics, in a bid to showcase the vast research areas covered here at the CRST.

The list of CRST members and their presentation topics at this year’s rubber conference are as follows:

·         Effect of free foaming and pre-curing on the thermal, morphological and physical

properties of reclaimed tyre rubber (RTR) foam composites

(Dr Mapoloko Mpho Phiri – Post Doctoral Candidate)

·         Devulcanization of truck tyre tread vulcanizates using diphenyl disulphide and 2,

2-dithiobis(benzothiazole) in supercritical carbon dioxide

(Briswell Mabuto – Masters Candidate)

·         Beneficiation of pyrolysis-derived waste tyre char by blending with torrefied wood

and microalgae to produce solid fuel

(Cleopatra Thulani Dube – Masters Candidate)

·         Reclaimed rubber/natural rubber blends: Correlation of tensile responses

obtained from different testing methods

(Jabulani Gumede – Masters Candidate)

·         Investigation of the effect of waste tyre pyrolysis-derived carbon black on the

properties of styrene-butadiene rubber

(Sisonke Ketelo – Masters Candidate)

·         Effect of lignin on the properties of reclaimed rubber and reclaimed rubber blends

(Matshidiso Makhalema – Masters Candidate)

·         Analysis of the effectiveness of Tulbaghia violacea extracts as devulcanizing

agents for rubber vulcanizates

(Lutho Gxakuma – Masters Candidate)
