Nelson Mandela University has a long history of providing quality rubber science and technology training at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Nelson Mandela University was involved from the beginning with the development of one of the first learnership programmes in manufacturing industry.

The rubber technology learnership has been in operation for nearly a decade and has provided a number of graduates from previously disadvantaged backgrounds who are employed in the South African tyre and rubber industries.
